About Sizes

The word “big” and “small” are general terms to describe the sizes of objects, animals or people. However, how big is big, and how small is small? The following table shows the adjectives that you could use to describe more accurately how big or small something or someone is.


  • large
  • huge

very big

  • gargantuan
  • enormous

 extremely big

  • gigantic
  • colossal
  • monstrous
  • humongous 

  • little

 very small

  • tiny
  • miniscule [mini-skiul]
  • minute [mai-niut]

 extremely small

  • microscopic (too small to be seen with the naked eye)
